![]() This means that players will be able to finish a whole tournament in the same time that it usually takes to finish a single round in most golf simulations. Even for diehard fans, golf videogames can get a bit tiresome after a while because it can sometimes take up to an hour just to finish a single round of 18 holes, but this isn't a problem here because most games take in the area of only 15 minutes. The thing about this year's version that really stands out is that the general pace of the game is faster than ever before. And in analog mode, players can use the left analog stick of the Dual Shock controller to simulate the swing by pressing down to start the backswing and pressing forward once the desired shot strength is met to simulate the swing - the hook and slice is determined by how straight the analog stick is pressed forward. In digital mode, the players are offered a simple three point swing meter with a basic horizontal bar - press a button to start the meter, press again to set the strength of the swing and press for a final time for the accuracy. The basic play mechanics of the game is pretty standard as far as golf games go. And the courses that are available include Poppy Hills, TPC at Sawgrass, TPC at Summerlin, TPC of Scottsdale, Badlands Golf Club, and TPC at The Canyons. Stay tuned.Gameplay In addition to having Tiger Woods, who's not only golf's biggest name but also one of the most well known in all of sports, the game also gives players the chance to play as any one of seven other PGA pros including Leonard, O'Meara, Calcavecchia, Janzen, Faxon, Damron, and Cink in various gameplay modes including Practice, Stroke, Skins, Tournament, Match and a Challenge Mode that has players try and make the cut as a real pro golfer. We'll publish more on PGA Tour 06 closer to the game's ship date. Also, the analog putting system seems to benefit from further refinement, as some of that "funkiness" we felt in earlier builds seems to have evaporated somewhat. As it stands, the game plays very much like the last time we saw it, meaning it plays well. Using one disk, up to four players can join in on Putting Frenzy, 3 Hole Skins and Playoff Round. Cooler still is the fact two people can play using only one UMD. One of the coolest aspects of the game, which is the Wi-Fi multiplayer option, allows golf fans to connect with friends and play five different games, including: Stroke Play, Match Play, Skins, Bingo Bango Bongo. Of course, players also get the choice of playing on the three fantasy courses mentioned earlier. These include: Pebble Beach Golf Links, TPC at Sawgrass, Spyglass Hill, Saint Andrews, Torrey Pines, Troon North Monument, Colonial Country Club, Edgewood Tahoe, and Turnberry-Ailsa. PGA Tour 06 includes a bunch of new courses, nine of which are licensed. Victory in each brings players closer to the ultimate challenge, which is of course Tiger Woods himself. Then it's on to the various challenges, of which there are tournaments, mini-games, matches, "rival challenges" and other events. To start the mode, we had to create our golf persona using the game's GameFace character customization tool. ![]() We also tinkered around with the new Rivals mode, which sees a player face off against 14 licensed PGA Tour celebrities in a battle for golf supremacy. Also, the above-mentioned putting greens feature varying difficulty, so even die-hard putters won't feel left out. Again, Putting Frenzy played well and should help those with putting disorders vastly improve their game. This mini-game served to covert purposes during our demo: first, to test the improved Swing Meter (which helps gauge the power of a swing) and also to improve our game (we needed the practice.) The PSP version of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06 features three exclusive putting greens, including: Tropical Paradise, the Scottish Highlands and Antarctica. So, the harder the putt, the higher the score will be. The game calculates a player's score by the distance of the putt. We played around with the game's many improvements, including the all-new, PSP exclusive Putting Frenzy mini-game, where the goal is to sink as many putts as possible before the timer runs out. Basically, everything just looks cleaner, sharper and closer to something found on a console. Currently, the game boasts improved character models and enhanced environments. We've seen the game on two separate occasions now, with the game looking better each time.
